Hopping life

“Last year I stayed at Yakushima, where is famous for Jomonsugi, for a half year. The communication with people there was really fun. Considering the life style that I am doing. I cannot go back to the life in Tokyo. I can no longer ride on a jam-packed train,” said Daisuke Kudo who is an owner of a bar in Kannawa district in Beppu.

Kudo opened his own bar named ‘Tatinomi pon’ this November, in a monthly rental space named ‘Scramble Beppu’. Actually, his is an ‘address hopper’. The word was born in Japan. It means people who don’t have a house, apartment, and go around wherever they want. He used to live in Tokyo for several years ago. He works online whole time. There was no need to stay at the same place for him. Therefore, he started the style of life from Sendai, heading to west side in Japan.

So far, he has visited some famous city in Japan like, Dogo, Hakata, Yakushima. “In each place, I could see tiny differences of locality even in the same country. It is really interesting to compare them because the background of the city is varied from city to city,” Kudo said with laughing.

“In the decision-making process where to go next, my friend was in Beppu. I came here to just meet an old friend. However, once I met and talked with the friend who is an owner of the rental space in kannawa, I was really interested in the rental space and started a bar,” said Kudo.

The space is so narrow that more than 7people can’t stand but, the bar is fulled with more than 10 people everyday. Some people enjoy discussing with drinking outside the bar.

Various kinds of people coming to the place. For example, local people, a professor of a university, remote workers from Tokyo. “I wanted to make a bar where many strangers with different background can meet and discuss their thought. This is a place that Sightseen visiters, local people and short-term worker are ‘scrambled’. I am very glad to see people enjoy talking in my bar,” said Kudo.

He is going to move the bar to new place in Kannawa. The name of bar is ‘Yume miru pon’. In Kannawa, there are few places that people can drink to midnight, because most shops close at 5pm or faster. So ‘Yume miru pon’ can be a new ‘scrambled intersection’ for people living in Kannawa.
